The original clothes designer for society’s women, Charles Frederick Worth created masterpieces for the ladies of the set, and is considered to be the father of haute couturé. Founder of THE HOUSE OF WORTH in Paris, his fashions were coveted by women throughout the world – including the court of queens. His attention to detail and perfect fit, in addition to his use of sumptuous fabrics, beadwork, fine lace and embroidery, delivered Charles Worth a bevy of elite clientele which included the ladies of America’s Gilded Age: Mrs. Caroline Astor, her daughter Carrie, Edith Jones Wharton and Sara Swan Whiting, among others.
